  Cormac Byrne. A percussionist
since the age of four, Cormac developed a love for
the bodhran and traditional music while studying at
the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
In 2002 he formed folk
band Uiscedwr with fiddle player Anna Esslemont. The
following year they won the BBC Young Folk Award,
and two years later were nominated for the Horizon
Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. In 2006 Uiscedwr
- whose line up now includes Kevin Dempsey - released
their second studio album Circle to much success and
critical acclaim.
During this time, Cormac
has also worked with several other bands including
the Seth Lakeman band, Danish based Baltic Crossing,
Jez Lowe, Andrew Dinan and the RTE Concert Orchestra.
He has appeared at countless festivals including Cambridge
Folk Festival, Sidmouth Folk Festival, Dranouter (Belgium),
V-Festival, T in the Park, Falun Folk Festival (Sweden),
Cropredy, and many more.
Cormac combines a busy
touring schedule with a number of education projects.
He currently teaches Bodhran and Percussion at Newcastle
University as part of the Folk Music Degree Course,
and is a visiting tutor to Farncombe Estate Education
Centre. He regularly gives clinics and workshops at
festivals around the country.
