UISCEDWR GO WILD IN AUSTRIA Updated 19/03/08

Gigs, Schnapps, Schnitzel and a whole lot of fun was had by all involved in the Celtic Spring Festival tour of Austria this year. 18 nights of highly successful gigs have no doubt helped Uiscedwr to make a BIG impression on Austria.

The trio were very well received all over the country, and sold all the cds they could fit on the plane over - 250 in total!! Anna, Cormac and James were delighted to be joined by accordion goddess Karen Tweed for two performances, which added an electrifying new dimension to the group - sparks were definitely flying on those nights! Uiscedwr adored playing to such responsive audiences, and can't wait to get back out there - next tour is already planned for Summer 2009. The band totally fell in love with the country, so look out Austria, next time we come, we may never leave! Jo genau...

FUNDRAISING SUCCESS

We're pleased to announce that through buying the rather sexy Aplastic Anaemia Trust wristbands and dogtags, you have helped to raise over £400 for the charity. FANTASTIC! Thank you enormously for your support of the AAT, it means a huge amount to Anna and those others who suffer from this rare illness.

BYE BYE KEVIN, HELLO JAMES

Big changes ahead for Uiscedwr, not least the departure of Kevin Dempsey, as he has left the trio to concentrate on other projects. There’s no hard feelings there and we’re just glad we got to play with him for as long as we did. We’ve had the best time playing with Kev over the last few years and want to wish him all the best for the future. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us on Kevin’s last tour with Uiscedwr in December 2007.

The exciting news is, we’re very happy to introduce a new face to the folk scene: Please welcome Mr James Hickman, guitarist and singer extraordinaire. James has a background in bluegrass and swing, and having played with the likes of fiddler Dan Cassidy (the late Eva Cassidy’s brother) we knew he’d be able to step up to the mark for Uiscedwr. He’s played gigs all over the UK and Europe, taking in a few support slots for Jools Holland, so he’s definitely pedigree material! James will be joining the trio from 30th January 2008 onwards, so look out for the shaggy haired lad at a gig near you soon.

More news and details will be added soon on the news page, including a Big Band update. Slainte
